Swarms of plucky army ants renowned for building "body bridges" can dismantle and rebuild their amazing structures within seconds, enabling them to span great distances. The discovery, captured on film and analysed by an international team of scientists, could help engineers develop robotic systems for carrying out exploration and rescue work in inaccessible or dangerous areas.
